The Three Minute Thesis (3MT^®) Competition is a research communication competition developed by The University of Queensland (UQ). It "cultivates students' academic, presentation, and research communication skills" and "increases their capacity to effectively explain their research in three minutes, in a language appropriate to a non-specialists audience".

The School of Engineering (SENG) started hosting the 3MT^® Competition in 2014. In 2018, through the collaboration of SENG and the Fok Ying Tung Graduate School (then the Office of Postgraduate Studies), the Competition was expanded to the university level and welcomes research students from all the schools and program offices to participate.
